Fool Me Once, Shame On You…
Fool me twice, and I’ll call you Senator.
I can’t shake the feeling that I’ve been lied to endlessly about this TABOR “timeout.” First, it was the severe underestimate of how much of your money government would end up keeping. Then came the unconstitutional property tax freeze – which was also underestimated. Is it no surprise that now, after all the billions collected, higher education is still “strapped for cash.” Amy Oliver has written a wonderful op-ed on the irony of having the ability to submit the largest budget in Colorado history for 2008-09, yet still say with a straight face, “we need more.” *hint* One reason could be that spending on programs not associated with Referendum C have grown twice as fast as spending on education and health care.
