The Rocky Endorses Colorado Amendment 49
We can proudly add the Rocky Mountain News to the growing list of endorsements for Amendment 49, Ethical Standards. The Rocky decided that 49 is just plain good, ethical government. In other words, government that does not use taxpayer money to funnel member dues to special interests:
Should Amendment 49 pass, unions and other organizations benefiting from free collections would simply share the same fundraising challenges that other groups successfully confront all the time.
This is the 21st century right? We’ve got computers capable of processing automatic bank deductions with just a few clicks of the mouse. I’ve had online banking for years now despite my age. But even if you hate computers and want nothing to do with them, people still use checks don’t they? And as far as the opponents coming out against 49, and lumping it together with Amendments 47 and 54, the Rocky again hits the nail square on the head:
We don’t know at what point Amendment 49 got thrown into the mix – or why it should even be there, since it appears to us to be a benign good-government measure.
Makes me wonder…. what are they so scared of? 49 limits government, not individuals. Seems the opponents have taken a page out of the Ritter playbook, but instead of using children as props, they are using policemen, firefighters, and nurses to employ their scare tactics. That a whiff. Either that smell is desperation or I’ve got an old sandwich under my desk I forgot to throw away.
