Goodbye Rocky, We’ll Miss You :(

The Rocky Mountain News, the 150 year old Colorado institution we have all grown to love, has finally called it quits.  Tomorrow the Rocky will publish its final newspaper… ever.  It’s taken awhile for this to all sink in, and to a large extent, I’m not sure it has yet.  I don’t think we realize just how lucky we were to live in a two newspaper town.  The Denver Post always had the Rocky there to keep it honest, and vice vera.  Now, accountability on a number of levels disappears.  The accountability that newspapers bring to government is halved, along with the accountability that competition breeds between two major news competitors.  Furthermore, I’m 50% less likely to receive the type of media attention my raging ego demands.

Dave Kopel and I decided to do a podcast today, a sort of farewell address to the Rocky. We discuss what each of us will miss most about it, and the broader implications of a one newspaper town. In addition, I’ve embedded my interview with John Temple, then editor of the Rocky, just a few weeks back on my show Independent Thinking:
