John vs. John vs. Jon
How many more prison beds can Colorado afford? This week, Independent Thinking takes a look at sentencing reform and the work of the Colorado Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice (CCJJ). State Senator John Morse and Attorney General John Suthers, both commission members, join me to talk about crime, punishment, and the prospects for sentencing reform in the next legislative session. Tune in tonight at 8:30 PM on KBDI, Channel 12. Re-broadcast on Monday at 1:30 PM.

Great show and vital info on the scourge of meth addiction and the failure of society to rehabilitate by just “locking them up”. Only now do we have to talk about it because of money shortfalls. Unfortunately, all the possible solutions are just bandaids. I don’t want an increase in burglers in my neighborhood. However it is a heart wrenching issue….I know first hand of 2 brothers of my daughter’s husband who are in prison because of addiction to meth – drug deals gone bad. One brother leaves a wife and baby because of this, the other is older and a repeat offender. My 12 yr old grandson’s real dad,Tony couldn’t keep his paycheck for rent…but only for the drug. Many grandparents in my church are raising their grandchildren. So sad….I asked Tony 12 yrs ago what he saw in the drug….he said, “I don’t know, but I just have to have it”. Fortunately, my grandson is being raised by a responsible dad that never started on meth (but he does smoke pot and drink beer).
After your show I thought (LIGHT BULB) WHY NOT GET A VACCINE TO INNOCULATE AGAINST METH ADDICTION??? Is this crazy? Well, if (Government) were to treat it like a disease, put money into research – then these thousands of people could be cured and return to “life” Surely this is the crux of the issue……..the addictive power it has leading to crime. As a true Christian believer, I know the power of this rehabilitation avenue…..however it cannot be forced like a shot or innoculation.
As for pot legalization, it’s about time society realized how comparatively harmless it is. Why? IT IS NOT ADDICTING!!! I’ve known for 40 years it is not addicting. I gave it up when I became a Christian back in ‘73, eventhough I did enjoy it. I knew it wasn’t right for me as a true believer in Christ, so I prayed about it and realized that I didn’t like to feel paranoid.
Let’s regulate pot use for quality and potency, tax it, and put the money into meth addiction vaccines!! Potheads don’t belong in jail. It’s much less physically and socially destructive than ….our Universal drug: ALCOHOL
……but now we have something apparently even worse than alcohol and even heroine: METH use and it’s destructive addiction consequences, which, thanks to your program, is not a myth. THANK YOU for bringing this issue to the forefront….much of society still is in denial that it is a problem (i.e. Reader’s Digest for one).
