Jared Polis on Health Care “Reform”

Posted by jccaldara on Jan 15 2010 | Health Care, Idiot Box (TV Show)

Can 2,000 plus pages of new and increased taxes, mandates and regulations really insure the uninsured, reduce health care costs and bring down the deficit? There are a lot of big promises coming out Washington D.C. these days. On this week’s Independent thinking, Colorado Congressman Jared Polis joins me to talk about the health care bills being reconciled in Congress, and what the result might mean for Americans. That’s 8:30 PM tonight on KBDI Channel 12, Denver. Re-broadcast the following Monday at 1:30 in the afternoon.

Jon–I caught your interview of Jared Polis on Channel 12–01/18/10. He wasn’t my choice. It would have been nice if he would have answered your questions on Obamacare. It seems that politicians have difficulty drawing realistic parallels to forced healthcare. Auto insurance is not comparable.

In my case I have headed a number of businesses and hired employees. I worked to research available health insurance and various deductible levels. I was also advised that claims for pre-existing conditions would not be paid for 1-5 years. After that period claims would be paid.
I never paid for any employees insurance. If they approved I would withhold the selected premium.

I counseled employees to withhold a portion of their pay weekly. I did the same. This reserve was really no different than budgeting for rent, car payment, utilities or food. The priority was not to enter into new debt by buying a new car on deceptive time payments but to build the medical reserve fund. Employees were usually under the age of 40 and healthy.

It didn’t take long and a fund of $5,000–$15,000 was built up. Preventive (well) visits and immunizations never topped $250/year. The fund was used for dental work as well which usually was less than $1,000/year. Being fungible the cash reserve could be used for any emergency. That won’t happen with Obamacare–except the reserves will fund some social engineering program.

Something that gets little exposure (especially during the recession) are the number of people that refuse to work. I call them slackers. They beg with cardboard signs or game the system to get welfare. I thought we had a “welfare to work” program starting with Clinton but the wealth transfer seems to continue. Even more generations of welfare recipients at the expense of working citizens appears to be the goal of the liberals.

Now being a General Contractor I will have no employees under Obama. Each person will be engaged as a subcontractor and responsible for their own workman’s comp, mandatory health insurance, and estimated tax payments. The more the government intrudes the more capitalism will morph to exclude it as the Constitution mandates. Jared Polis repeatedly stated that Americans were covered by employer provided insurance. He couldn’t be more wrong.

    Keep backing them into corners.
